NASA - Ares 1 Space Shuttle
Ares 1 is an in-line, two-stage rocket configuration topped by the Orion crew vehicle.
In addition to the vehicle's primary mission -- carrying crews of four to six astronauts into Earth orbit -- Ares 1 may also use its 25-ton payload capacity to deliver resources and supplies to the International Space Station, or to "park" payloads in orbit for retrieval by other spacecraft bound for the moon or other destinations.
Dimension Four Paintings involvement with the Ares 1 space shuttle is through the company Intelligent Machine Solutions which was commissioned to design and build a movable robotic arm.
Dimension Four Painting was hired by IMS to paint the machine.
The machines function was explained in words too large for me to understand, but my basic understanding is that the robotic arm sprays foam insulation on the inside of the booster rocket. However, that could be completely incorrect.
This was a really cool project to work on. It's great to see this type of business being operated in Muskegon. We will be looking forward to working with the great guys at Intelligent Machine Solutions in the future.
